Italian stock listed Ciccolella acquires Springflower

Springflower Holding is a group of trading companies in flowers and plants. The company is headquartered in Aalsmeer and has a leading position in the Scandinavian, German and French markets. Springflower generates revenues of approx. €50 million. Movrie is a subsidiary focusing on supplying supermarkets and retail chains. Hiljo focuses supplying wholesalers and smaller retail chains from Scandinavia to Central and Southern Europe. Summer Flower is a subsidiary that supplies large quantities at competing prices.

Ciccolella is one of the largest players in trading flowers and plants on the European market and generated revenues of approx. €350 million in 2010. The company is active in both the retail and wholesale market segments. The parent company is listed at the Milano stock exchange in Italy. Ciccolella’s strategy encompasses a further development and diversification of its production and trade activities and integration of agriculture and production with green energy, whole focusing on sustainable production and respect for the environment.

The acquisition fits well in Ciccolella’s ambition to attain a market leadership position. The company is strengthening its position through multiple partnership and acquisitions in markets it deems important. Claudio Rustioni, CEO of Ciccolella, explains: “With this acquisition, we can further strengthen our market and competitive position and generate cost savings through integration.” Springflower and Ciccolella will mainly cooperate in the area of operations, logistics, marketing, sales, distribution and procurement.
